Our History

23 Degrees Renewables Ltd was established in 2011 and is rapidly becoming recognised by clients for excellence in dealing with challenging problems encountered on submarine cable installation projects. 23D have, over the past 2 years, directly undertaken a number of complex and demanding power cable shore end installation and survey projects around the UK and Europe.23D are able to draw upon experience gained through more than 60 years of

offshore and deep sea operations on a range of submarine cable applications and marine projects, and bring with us a thorough appreciation of the interaction and relationships between the various components of a project at sea which is fundamental to achieving a successful result. The Directors of 23D have worked in senior management positions both Offshore and Onshore and appreciate the correlation between offshore operations and commercial matters.

Meet The Team

Grahame Tate

Managing Director

Grahame possesses a wealth of offshore experience working in the HV power, oil & gas, and renewable energy sectors; this includes development, procurement, installation and contract management, and O&M activities working as both a contractor and as a client. He is an accomplished project manager and offshore engineering (inc. cable engineering) specialist who embraces complexity to drive and achieve success. This is predicated around a strong understanding of the contract, technical requirements, interfaces (internal and external, contractual and stakeholder), project / client drivers and objectives, and a consummate ability to communicate and navigate these complexities to a positive outcome.

His technical core competences are in both submarine cable engineering and installation, and offshore and coastal civil engineering and construction. Grahame’s breadth of experience includes leadership and operational roles on 7 HV power cable projects. Of particular relevance is Grahame’s experience as the Marine Project Manager (Employer’s Supervisor) for the East-West Interconnector Project between Ireland and the UK where he successfully managed a team (as presented) to deliver the submarine cable system on time and under budget.

Brad Tate

Operations Director

Master Mariner with extensive (20 years) experience in working on a range of vessels from small sailing yachts to mega yachts. Brad joined 23 Degrees approximately 4 years ago as Operations Manager and more recently taken on the role of Operations Director, specifically dealing with the marine fleet and land cable equipment. An experienced Vessel Master, Heavy Earth Moving Diesel Mechanic and Marine Diesel Engineer, Marine Electrical Systems Engineer (12v-380v).
Experience in Marine Operations, Towing, ROV, Survey, MFE works, Scour Rock Protection, Autoprop folding propellers, Hundestead variable pitch props, Richfield bow thrusters and stern thrusters, Lemar bow thrusters, Lemar Hydraulic winches, Line Management and Electronics, Harken Winches and Miele marine equipment. After completing a full time 4-year apprenticeship in heavy earth moving mechanics and a further two years as a certified Heavy Mechanic followed a career offshore, offshore electronics and mechanics and finally a fully certified Vessel Master. Brad has recently completed a course in Marine Mammal Observation in Inverness.

Ed Woodrow

Business Development Director

Ed has recently joined 23 Degrees Renewables as Business Development Director after 19 years in the marine industry, with the past 14 years focused on offshore renewables.

Ed comes from a diving industry background where he worked as the Sales Director for one of the UK’s leading diving companies, playing a key role in bringing them into the renewables industry and overseeing a wide range of subsea projects including IRM, cable installation support, UXO, ROV and mass flow excavation services at over 25 windfarms across the UK and Western Europe.

Since joining 23 Degrees fulltime in 2019, Ed has concentrated on the offshore power cables market, gaining valuable experience and exposure to some of the complexities of the industry working as an assistant project manager on a range of cable shore landing projects.

23D has developed and implemented an Integrated Management System (IMS) that includes the QUALITY management system and ENVIRONMENTAL management system combined to better satisfy the needs of its customers and to improve the management system of the company. IMS complies with the international standards ISO 9001: 2015. It covers the range of services of our company.
